WHAT IS RHINITIS

Allergic rhinitis is an inflammation of the nasal mucous membranes due to sensitive immune reaction to certain airborne allergens such as dust, pollen, mold, cold weather or even foods

When you come in contact with the allergen, your immune system will release chemicals such as histamine into your bloodstream. Histamine will cause a reaction that leads to the irritating signs and symptoms of allergic rhinitis. more>>

Symptoms may include:

  • Runny nose (thin and watery) and nasal congestion

WHAT IS SINUSITIS

"Sinusitis" refers to inflammation of the nasal sinus cavities, which are moist, hollow spaces in the bones of the skull. The sinuses are located behind the eyebrows, cheekbones, and nose. The sinuses help moisten and warm air that is filtered by the nose, serving to protect the lungs. The sinuses also play a role in voice resonation. Any blockage will prevents the flow of mucus, the pressure builds up, leading to sinusitis (inflammation and pain). If the blocked sinus becomes infected with bacteria, the sinus becomes even more inflamed and painful. more >>

There are four different pairs of sinuses -- the frontal, ethmoid, maxillary, and sphenoid sinuses. In this illustration, the sinuses on the right side are shown as inflamed and infected, although any sinus can be affected. The sphenoid sinuses are not shown because they are further back in the head.

WHAT IS ASTHMA

Asthma occurs when the airways in your lungs (bronchial tubes) become inflamed and constricted. The muscles of the bronchial walls tighten, and your airways produce extra mucus that blocks your airways. more>>

Symptoms

If you have asthma, the inside walls of the airways in your lungs are inflamed and swollen. This makes the muscles surrounding your airways very sensitive, so they tighten and constrict spontaneously. In addition, membranes in your airway linings secrete excess mucus. The result is narrowed airways and obstructed airflow that typically lead to coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath.
